About the Event

The San Diego Federal Bar Association and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California are pleased to present the Twentieth Annual Judith N. Keep Federal Practice Seminar.  The annual seminar is dedicated to the memory of former U.S. District Judge Judith N. Keep, who served as a District Judge in the Southern District of California for over twenty years and as the District's first female Chief Judge from 1991 to 1998.

This year’s seminar will celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Keep Seminar and will feature welcome remarks, a special video tribute to Judge Keep, a keynote address from Administrative Presiding Justice Judith McConnell of the California Court of Appeal, and panel presentations by several Southern District of California District Judges and Magistrate Judges. The panels will focus on various aspects of pretrial and trial practice, including civility and ethics in high-stakes litigation, best practices for mediation before Magistrate Judges, motion practice in federal court, and evidentiary rules at trial.
