Updated: Feb 22, 2021

On August 26, 2020, the San Diego Chapter kicked off the first part of its three-part series on civility in the law. “Civility Series Part I: Understanding and Incorporating Civility into Practice,” hosted on Zoom, addressed how civility applies to nearly all aspects of the legal profession, the important role it should play in improving your practice, and the ethical and psychological factors underpinning civil and uncivil behavior. The panel of speakers included: Sandra Sgoutas-Emch, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of San Diego; David B. Casselman, a mediator/arbitrator with ADR Services Inc. based in Los Angeles who is also the writer/producer of the American Board of Trial Advocates’ “Civility Matters” training video; and Victor N. Pippins, Jr., the San Diego-based founder and attorney at the Law Office of Victor Pippins whose practice focuses on criminal defense in state and federal courts. Webinar attendees submitted questions during the program. Approximately 115 people viewed this event live. To access written materials from the event, visit: www.fbasd.org/cle-materials
