Cultural Competence: Representing and Affirming LGBTQ+ Clients

Join the FBA, San Diego Chapter virtually at noon on June 9, 2021, as we co-sponsor Cultural Competence: Representing & Affirming LGBTQ+ Clients, which is presented by the San Diego County Bar Association and Tom Homann LGBT Law Association.

About this program:

Cultural competence in LBGTQ+ legal issues requires understanding not only current terminology and inclusive language, but also having an understanding and awareness of the issues impacting the community, including rising hate crimes.

In honor and support of San Diego Pride month, join us for this panel discussion with Tiana Vargas, Director of Training & Community Education at the San Diego LGBTQ Community Center and Leonard Trinh, Deputy District Attorney, Hate Crimes Unit, covering strategies for affirming and supporting LGBTQ+ clients.

Key takeaways include:

  • Recognizing and addressing implicit bias

  • Inclusive language

  • Strategies for affirming LGBTQ+ clients

  • Gender-neutral pronouns and how to respectfully address clients

  • Addressing bias in the court
