Introduction to Federal Court

On June 24, 2021, the FBA, San Diego Chapter presented its “Introduction to Federal Court” MCLE event at the Carter-Keep United States Courthouse. This was the Chapter's first in-person public event in 2021, and approximately 50 attendees participated. The event featured multiple distinguished panels.

Chapter President Rebecca Church moderated a United States Judges panel discussion including Chief Judge Dana M. Sabraw and U.S. Magistrate Judge Bernard G. Skomal. Federal trial attorney, author, and civil procedure professor James M. Wagstaffe, Esq. presented a lecture focused on recent threshold decisions affecting federal jurisdiction and venue.

Chapter President Rebecca Church also moderated a “Joining Your Legal Community” panel featuring Lawyer Representatives Licia Vaughn and Lupe Rodriguez and Chapter Board Members Dylan Aste and Mary Cile Glover-Rogers. The Clerk of Court, John Morrill, educated attorneys on Clerk of Court operations and federal court filing procedures.

Legal Education Committee Member Belen Granados moderated a civil practitioners panel featuring FBA members Erick M. Acker of Morrison & Foerster, Jenna M. Rangel of Haeggquist & Eck, LLP, and Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca Church. Legal Education Committee Member Brian Hazen moderated a criminal practitioners panel featuring FBA members Chloe S. Dillon of the Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc., Assistant United States Attorney Meghan Heesch, and Martin G. Molina of the Law Office of Martin G. Molina.
