Desislava Kalcheva is the Career Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable William V. Gallo, the Southern District of California's Presiding U.S. Magistrate Judge. FBA Member Hannah Brown shares that Desi is not only a critical wheel in our local judicial system but also someone who dedicates her time to mentoring law students, promoting accessibility in education, and volunteering for the San Diego FBA.

Three-Part Legal Skill Series - Part 1: Investigating & Preserving a Case

Part One of the Civil Series will discuss various aspects of investigating and preserving a case. The panel aims to cover topics, including interviewing clients, the ethical duty to reasonably investigate, pre-filing negotiations, and data retention policies.

National FBA Awards Recognize San Diegans


The National FBA presented the inaugural Peter J. Mazza Outstanding Federal Lawyer Award, with a moving speech by Peter's widow, Megan Mazza, to Mack Jenkins. Joseph S. Leventhal (above), Past President of the San Diego FBA, also received the Elaine R. “Boots” Fisher Award.

The San Diego FBA participated in the National FBA's Capitol Hill Day, which gives FBA members the exclusive opportunity to serve as representatives for the FBA in communication with Congress. FBA Criminal Law Scholarships


The FBA’s Criminal Law Section is offering two $1,500 scholarships for graduating 3Ls interested in pursuing a career in criminal law serving the public interest. Applications are due June 1.

 

Answer: About 173 cases or 7.5% of the District's new cases involved intellectual property, which is about twice the nationwide average.
