POWER Act: Pro Bono Opportunities to Help Victims of Domestic Violence


On August 26, the San Diego Chapter and the Lawyer Representatives for the Southern District of California partnered with the United States District Court for the Southern District of California in hosting the District’s annual POWER Act public event. The POWER Act of 2018 (Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent Act) is designed to help victims of domestic violence gain access to pro bono legal services. This free webinar provided information about pro bono opportunities available in San Diego to help domestic violence survivors. The program was moderated by District Court Judge Cynthia Bashant and featured the below speakers.

  • Dr. Ramona Probasco: Author, Healing Well and Living Free from an Abusive Relationship

  • Bhavani Peesapati-Madero: Staff Attorney with San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program who oversees the Domestic Violence Restraining Order Clinic in the San Diego Superior Court Central Courthouse

  • Anne-Marie Dao: Volunteer Attorney, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program
